The flu and covid vaccination campaign that will begin in Galicia the last week of September. The date, initially scheduled for October, is brought forward and the community will be one of the first to launch it. Specifically, it will be next Monday, September 25 and will last until December 31.
It will be a sequential start to prioritize the groups with the highest risk. In this way, it will begin in nursing homes and disability centers, where it is expected to protect about 30,000 people. On October 16, it will be extended to the rest of the target population, which includes people over 60 years of age, staff at health and social health centers, pregnant women and other groups. For the first time this year, smokers are included in this group. The flu vaccine is also recommended for children between 6 months and 5 years old and for people who have contact with animals on farms or farms.
The objective of the Xunta is to immunize against the flu at least 75% of those over 65 and health workers, and 60% of children and pregnant women. For this, it has two types of vaccines: a quadrivalent one, for the entire population under 80 years of age, and another high-load vaccine for people over 80 years of age and for users of nursing homes. It also has a new vaccine against covid-19 adapted to the circulating strains.
Where will the vaccines be given?
The usual vaccination points, that is, health centers, hospitals, private centers, residences, and mutual insurance companies, will only administer the flu vaccine. At these points, the patient will request the appointment when appropriate according to the established sequence.
Public hospitals will have doses of covid-19 and flu for the vaccination of high-risk groups.
In addition, during the month of October, large venues, known as vaccinodromes, will be set up in health areas and districts for joint vaccination against flu and Covid-19 for those under 80 years of age. These people will also be summoned via text message. Likewise, immobilized people who belong to the target groups will be vaccinated at home.
