VIGO, 23 Apr. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Sanidade has confirmed this Friday that people in the 65-69 age group will be the next to be vaccinated against Covid-19 and that, once this group is inoculated, the vaccination of essential personnel who have not yet received their dose will be restarted.
This has been reported by the councilor for Health, Julio García Comesaña, in response to the media during a ceremony at the Meixoeiro hospital in Vigo, in which the president of the Xunta, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has also participated and in which García Comesaña remembered that, When the Interterritorial Health Council decided to suspend the vaccination with Astrazeneca, “at the same time, the suspension of the vaccination of the essential groups was established.”
“Everything was pending of the evolution of the indication of Astrazeneca, and now what we have contemplated is that we are going to work with the 65 to 69 age group, which is the main objective right now“, he pointed out.
Therefore, Galicia will first end the vaccination of the 60-65 year old group and then begin the immunization of the group between 65 and 69 years old, which right now he’s waiting to be called, although the councilor has not specified dates for the start of vaccination to this group.
Likewise, Julio García Comesaña has ratified that, “Once this” old group “is finished,” the vaccination of essential personnel who are not vaccinated will be restarted. “
Essential staff
Once the Sergas ends with the group between 65 and 69 years old, priority will be given to the people of the groups declared essential under 60 years of age and not vaccinated. In the case of Galician teachers, it is 16 percent, while in the educational community there is another 12 percent of non-teaching personnel who have not received any dose.
In addition, several trade union organizations of the National Police have denounced that officers between 56 and 60 years old have not been vaccinated as part of the essential group, and have sent a letter to the councilor for Health to be summoned “urgently.” If this is not achieved, they will ask for the “protection” of the Ministry of Health, as happened in Catalonia, “to protect those whose mission is to protect others.”
The group of physical-sports educators who work in centers with a health license has also expressed their complaint., and that they are not incorporated into the vaccination plan, although other colleagues in these facilities have already been vaccinated “weeks ago.” The Official College of Graduates in Physical Education (COLEF) of Galicia has indicated that this situation is “causing complaints and discomfort among users and the workers themselves”, and has made itself available to Sergas to “organize the vaccination of these professionals” .
Parallel, Galicia has about 60,000 people from essential groups (under 60 years old) who have already received the first dose of Astrazeneca and that they are awaiting studies to determine with which second vaccine they will be administered.
Finally, It remains to be seen whether the Janssen vaccine technical data sheet will be extended to another group beyond the age group between 70 and 79. The doses of this preparation are currently being inoculated to large dependents in Galicia and large shipments are expected to arrive from June.
“Full capacity” to vaccinate
For his part, the president of the Xunta, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, highlighted that Galicia is using “all the capacity” of the public health system in the vaccination process, “depending on the doses that are arriving”, and has repeated that the forecast of having the population over 60 years vaccinated by the end of June is maintained.
“The vaccine works. We need to wait and be patient,” claimed the head of the Galician Executive, who explained that, “To meet the June target”, it is necessary that “the stock of Astrazeneca and Janssen does not break, and that new doses of Pfizer are incorporated, and new vaccines such as Novavax, Sputnik, or anyone who has the authorization of the EMA “.
The Galician president has also stressed that this weekend (Friday and Saturday) 35,000 people are scheduled to get vaccinated, and that on Sunday “thousands” will be cited again.
