Galicia tries mass vaccination in Gaiás | Radio Galicia

A room that usually serves as the stage for press conferences of the Xunta has been the place chosen for the mass vaccination trial in Galicia. A thousand people between 50 and 55 years old have been summoned this Thursday afternoon. If all goes well, the process will be extended to the entire community on Saturday.

The goal of this trial is to test circuits, the citation, and the new appointment confirmation telephone system. It will also allow you to detect possible problems related to a massive arrival of people at the same time or the reaction to the AstraZeneca vaccine. All persons named should wait 15 minutes after receiving the dose to verify that no complications arise.

For all of the above, 16 stalls have been set up in the Eisenmannn Hall of the City of Culture, although in this first test only 10 will be operational. The device is made up of ten Nursing teams and their coordinators, as well as administrative and IT personnel. According to the manager of the Sanitary Area of Santiago, Eloína Núñez, it is possible to “double” the capacity of the device, there are “enough personnel to give many more vaccines”, but it all depends on the number of doses received.

The work of preparing everything has been intense. According to Susana Mirás, Family and Community Nurse Specialist, in addition to coordinating, “since all this began, in December, it has been a non-stop.” His face reflects the fatigue of a year of pandemic and the extra effort required to launch a vaccination campaign at this level, even if it is, he says “good news.”
