Galicia Leads the Way in Childhood Flu Vaccination Coverage, Says Saúde Publica Director

The general director of Saúde Publica, Carmen Durán, has participated this Monday in Madrid in a bilateral round table between the United Kingdom and Spain, to address childhood flu vaccination and other issues related to public health, where she has highlighted that Galicia has the “highest in the national health system” childhood vaccination coverage against flu.

As reported by the Xunta, the representative of the Galician Health Department has highlighted the high percentage of adherence of the child population in the first flu vaccination campaign for children under five years of age. “We are at 55% after vaccinating nearly 37,500 boys and girls, it is the highest level of adherence in Spain,” she pointed out.

Likewise, it has valued the “most complete vaccination schedule in the State”, when it will be one year since the extension of the Galician child vaccination schedule, with the incorporation of the vaccine against Meningitis B, the HPV in the case of 12-year-old boys, and the quadrivalent flu vaccine for children between 6 months and 5 years.

In this way, Durán has stated that the Galician Vaccination Program constitutes “one of the lines of work with the longest history among Galician Public Health activities”, also remarking that “it has a broad consensus regarding its effectiveness and efficiency”. .
