Corning has today announced that Samsung’s next “Galaxy flagship phones”, i.e. the Galaxy S23 series, will be the first to feature the new Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The protective glass was introduced at the end of November and offers better protection against falls.
In other words, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 is meant to make sure that the screens in our smartphones don’t crack as often if they go downhill. According to Corning, the glass has been able to protect against falling onto concrete from one meter and onto asphalt from up to two meters.
The increased protection against falls should not come at the expense of scratch resistance, as it is on par with its predecessor Gorilla Glass Victus. In their press release, Corning boasts that their glass has so far been installed in eight billion units from over 45 major brands.
