The graphics card market has never been more agitated than it is today. Nvidia is, without a doubt, the big star of this segment, and it keeps sending new products to the shelves. Well, at least it sends out the quantity that the scarcity of components allows.
In parallel with the production of GPUs, there is also talk of cryptocurrency mining with this equipment. So, as expected, the Galax brand has now launched the first customized versions of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 and RTX 3070 graphics, but with limits on mining.
To graphics board GeForce RTX 3060 it was the first to come with a limitation for the extraction of digital coins. However, Nvidia was expected to release again the entire RTX 30 line already with this lock on all models. And it would only be a matter of time before it came to fruition.
Galax launches the first RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 with mining limits
The company Galax recently launched its customized versions of the graphics GeForce RTX 3070 and RTX 3080. But these models already bring limits to cryptocurrency mining, through the LHR variant.
The models are called Galax RTX 3080 Black General [FG] e Galax RTX 3070 Black General [FG] and are similar to the original models. However, they have a new version of their GA102 and GA104 chips that, in turn, limit the hash rate.
According to Nvidia, the new models would be identified with the acronym LHR which would mean Lite Hash Rate. But Galax says that this acronym actually means Lower Hash Rate, that is, low hash rate.
The VideoCardz website is of the opinion that Galax does not want consumers to notice the differences between the original models and the LHR versions. However, and as we can see from the images, these GPUs have the acronym FG, which has not yet been explained their meaning.
We can also confirm that the acronym LHR appears in the designation of the model of the chips.
There is also information that the RTX 3070 LHR printer will have an estimated hash rate of 25 MH / s, while the RTX 3080 LHR will achieve 43 MH / s.
