The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 video card is rightfully considered one of the best on today’s market, but Galax managed to improve the flagship model of the Ada Lovelace family by installing a retimer on it – a chip that ensures the purity of the HDMI signal when transmitting it over long distances.
This year the Galax brand turns 20, and the manufacturer decided to celebrate the anniversary with a limited edition product. Galax GeForce RTX 4090 20th Anniversary Edition is the first video card with an HDMI retimer. This chip improves signal quality when transmitting over long distances.
Retimers are usually present on consoles, because they are often located further away from TVs than monitors from system units. In the case of the new video card, it is a Parade PS8419 chip with support for the HDMI 2.1 standard and a speed of 12 Gbps. With it, the system unit can be placed even in the next room without fear of picture distortion. The remaining DisplayPort 1.4a trio is limited to standard capabilities.
The Galax GeForce RTX 4090 20th Anniversary Edition also uses the solution that NVIDIA itself used in the reference GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition – two-way air supply, top and bottom. Otherwise, this is a familiar four-slot model with a thickness of 60 mm and a length of up to 344 mm. The video card features a 24+4 power supply, which is sufficient for overclocking.
By default, the GPU has a peak clock speed of 2595 MHz, but it can be increased if you get a quality copy. The graphics adapter is equipped with a standard 16-pin power connector (12VHPWR), which is hidden behind the rear panel.
Galax GeForce RTX 4090 20th Anniversary Edition will be released in limited edition and is unlikely to go on general sale outside China. And the anniversary status of the model does not inspire hope for a modest price.
