Galatasaray has officially announced that it has canceled the jersey advertising deal which caused a controversy about illegal betting advertising.
The yellow-red club made the following statement to KAP regarding the termination of the sponsorship agreement:
The contract between our Company and Serwin Global Solutions SDN BHD, which was announced to be canceled on 17.09.2024, was terminated after being notified by letter dated 26.09.2024 that the to cancel a license granted by TFF. It is known to the public with respect.
Galatasaray President Dursun Özbek made the following statement about the sponsorship in a television program he attended recently:
If this is a betting site, we are out of business. We didn’t get any money. If something like this happens, we will discuss the situation internally. There are examples abroad, they became a sponsor of Torino as well. It should not be taken to this extent. Merit Hotels also sent us a warning. These were not things we knew. We looked at this site, it is completely a news portal. We didn’t get any money for two years, about 14 million dollars. Galatasaray is always the fastest club to deal with matters sensitive to Turkey. We actually made a sponsorship deal with news portal meritkingnews. We have almost 40 sponsors. We reserve the right to terminate all agreements. Realizing the sensitivity, we stopped it immediately. We are currently investigating it to see what it is.
