The 13th Boğaziçi University Sports Awards, organized by Boğaziçi University, found their owners.
At the ceremony held on the south campus of the University, Galatasaray was awarded in 3 different categories.
While our Galatasaray Football A Team received the best team award, Mauro Icardi received the best football player award and our coach Okan Buruk received the best coach award.
While our Coach Okan Buruk went up to the podium to receive his award, he also evaluated the championship success of last season and the UEFA Europa League match.
Okan Buruk’s statements are as follows:
“Being a champion on the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey founded by the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was very important and valuable, this was one of our biggest goals. We achieved this. I would like to thank both our players and our community. Very valuable teams were candidates, they all deserved to receive this award. I would also like to thank Boğaziçi University for deeming us worthy of this award, saying that I received this award together with them.
The motto of the 100th anniversary of the Republic was motivation for us. The fact that it was the 100th anniversary of the Republic was almost a motivation. At the same time, being in Europe is in Galatasaray’s genes. One of Galatasaray’s founding aims was to beat teams playing in Europe. We tried to achieve this this year, our goal was to play in Europe again. We achieved this this year and played very good games. Even though we cannot continue in the Champions League, we will continue our way in the Europa League. The draw was drawn today. In this sense, it is an important and valuable day. We will play against Sparta Prague in the European arena again on February 15th. Again a strong and good team. No match can be won without playing. When you prepare in the best way and give your best performance, things already become easier. I hope that after February, both us and Fenerbahçe will continue on their best path. The goal of both teams is to win trophies in Europe. Our goal is to win trophies in Europe again. I hope we can bring another cup to our country. “I experienced this as a football player, now my biggest goal is to experience it as a coach.”
Galatasaray Football A Team Media and Communications Manager Coşkun Gülbahar received the award for Mauro Icardi, who was selected as the best player of the year.
