Galatasaray footballers won 3:2 at Manchester United in the second round of Group A of the Champions League. For a long time, the attractive duel had a hero in the form of home striker Rasmus Höjlund, who scored his first two goals in the Red Devils jersey. While the Turks were able to answer the first with one goal from Wilfried Zaha even before the change of sides, they prepared a double answer for the second. The decisive blow was finally scored by Mauro Icardi in the 81st minute, who redeemed himself in the best possible way from the unconverted penalty that preceded the winning shot.
Manchester United players were not in a good mood before the home game against Galatasaray. Since the start of the new season, they have met the conquerors five times, while they fell at home to Crystal Palace at the weekend. Coach Erik ten Hag, among others, was a big target of criticism, but for example also Marcus Rashford, who has not been successful at all so far, which was confirmed by only one goal scored. The Turkish team fared much better, as they went on a streak of 20 competitive duels in a row without defeat.
Right at the beginning of the game, the Red Devils got into several interesting opportunities, but inaccurate passes in the final phase of the attack made it impossible to get any shot. In the 17th minute, Höjlund took advantage of the one-way traffic towards the goal of the team from Istanbul, who accurately ran onto the centered ball and finished with a hard header into the open goal. The loud home fans were silenced six minutes later by the experienced Zaha, who scored thanks to a fortunately deflected shot on the edge of the box.
Marcus Rashford wanted to conjure up a great assist for the second time in the evening, but in the 53rd minute of the match, he did not estimate the speed of the defenders, who managed to return quickly and neutralize his pass. However, the attacking colossus in the form of the Red Devils did not stop, and just six minutes later, Höjlund again prevailed, but this time from an offside position. Playing in a great mood, Höjlund did not let his joy be spoiled, especially when he made it 2-1 in the 67th minute after breaking free from a defender and easily beating the opposing goalkeeper. As in the first half, however, the joy lasted only a few minutes, as Kerem Akturkoglu equalized with a hard pumice stone to make it 2:2. Sharpshooter Icardi, who had a penalty in the 78th minute, could turn the game around. However, in a tense moment, he did not hit and missed. In the end, however, the incredible turn of the game took place when it was Icardi who ran away from his defender in the 81st minute and gracefully rounded the goalkeeper to complete the Turkish dream.
Manchester United burned out at home again and lost for the second time in the group stage of the Champions League. In the next round, they will face Copenhagen on October 24, while Galatasaray will face Bayern on the same day.
