Gala (15) wins ‘The voice kids’: “Strange, very strange”

They were evenly matched, the eight finalists of ‘The voice kids’. But in the exciting final, in which hardly any mistakes were made, Gala (15) received the most votes from the digital audience jury. “I still have trouble believing it,” she says.

First there had to be gone from eight to four in The voice kids. No problem for Gala, who is a nice version of it Goodbye yellow brick road from Elton John. Her coach Sean Dhondt chose her at the expense of Tiany (14). Then he had to hand it over to the digital audience jury, which was created by corona. With its own version of Make you feel my love she managed to win the majority of the souls from Adele too.

“Strange, very strange”, she says afterwards. “What an experience. I still have trouble believing it and didn’t expect it at all. I am very grateful to everyone! When they called out my name I thought: what the fuck! I was also completely sick from the stomach cramps. Then came that blue light and that music. I thought: just say it now, I can’t anymore.”

Due to the corona crisis, the recordings of The voice kids on March 27 to an early end, just before the semifinal. For a moment it was thought to indicate a winner, but in the end it was decided to continue. This gave the children four months extra time to practice. The finale episode was taped in mid-July.

Thanks to her victory, Gala now receives a scholarship of 10,000 euros. “I want to use that to study art in London. What exactly, I don’t know yet. Perhaps it will become the conservatory. I don’t see myself doing anything else. Becoming a doctor or a lawyer is not for me. ”

It is also a happy moment for her coach Sean Dhondt. He wins at Met Gala for the first time in his five-year career as a coach The voice kids. “With Gala we have a world star in the making ahead of us this year,” he says. “I am so incredibly proud of her. And this is just the beginning, believe me. ”
