Eindhoven –
Cody Gakpo still having trouble looking okay at Liverpool. The story would be different if Gakpo chose to join Manchester United.
Gakpo has actually been MU’s target since last summer, but there has been no agreement on the price with PSV Eindhoven. When entering the January transfer market, MU is said to be bringing him.
However, MU again did not make an offer to PSV so that Gakpo instead joined Liverpool with a tag of 37 million pounds.
It’s a shame that Gakpo’s performance so far hasn’t been as expected. Instead, he’s having trouble adapting and hasn’t scored any goals in the first seven games.
At the same time, Liverpool’s appearance has also suffered because it has now fallen to 10th place in the Premier League standings with 10 points difference from the top four.
Gakpo was also considered a failed purchase because he could not improve Liverpool’s performance. Therefore, Ruud van Nistelrooy as his former coach at PSV regretted Gakpo’s decision to rush to Liverpool.
If Gakpo is more patient, he can move to MU next season and perform better there. Because Liverpool is claimed to be far behind MU.
“The fact is that Liverpool is 10 times smaller than Manchester United in every aspect,” said Van Nistelrooy as reported by the Guardian.
“I feel lucky to play for the two biggest clubs in the world, Manchester United and Real Madrid.”
“It’s not going to score a lot of goals for United at the moment, they have great midfielders who can create chances like Fernandes, Casemiro and even Eriksen.”
