VHP faction leader Asiskumar Gajadien is unhappy about the fuss about the overnight appointment of Shivanand Ramlall, director of the Directorate for National Security (DNV) in Suriname as police commissioner.
Gajadien tells ABC Radio that there are legal regulations that the president can use to appoint someone as a commissioner. According to him, the president has used this in the nomination of Ramlall.
The parliamentarian hastens to say that the previous government also applied the arrangements to appoint commissioners. He believes that now that the president is doing the same, it is becoming a problem. He says there is nothing wrong.
Gajadien says if the president explains why he acted there, it shouldn’t be a problem.
The members of the Surinamese Police Union gave the board the mandate on Tuesday to ensure that the appointment of Ramlall as police commissioner is no later than September 24, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. must be reversed.
