The first half ended goalless, so the first goal instead fell shortly after the break after Gai’s goalkeeper Erik Krantz got out wrong on a cross and Elyas Bouzaiene was left free to score 1-0 for the home team Degerfors.
2-0 came soon after through Gustav Lindgren who scored on the volley.
Gais reduced the score to 1-2 shortly afterwards through Alexander Holmström, and in the 88th minute he struck again when he made it 2-2 via the crossbar.
But the Gothenburgers did not manage to turn around and are thus eliminated for the last round of the Swedish Cup’s group stage.
Degerfors, on the other hand, leads the group in front of Elfsborg and Örgryte.
The Värmlanders face Elfsborg away from home next Sunday.
