A damaged Gais, yes, that’s all that went to more northern latitudes to meet Gefle. Fredrik Holmberg had to manage without Chisomnazu Chika Chidi, Erik Krantz, Niklas Andersen, Richard Friday and Egzon Binaku.
This in a summit.
Or, well, a meeting between the four Gais and the six Gefle.
Add that the third Öster met the fifth Landskrona earlier on Saturday. Where the Skåne looked to be heading for victory but Öster equalized late on.
That meant that Gais had the chance to snatch the qualifying spot from Öster.
Dream start for Gais – goal after two minutes
It was also a dream start for the green and blacks. They immediately took care of the ball and held it until just over two minutes had been played. Then Julius Lindberg pulled in from distance and Robin Wallinder got into trouble.
He left the return right out.
Then Mervan Celik came and had an open goal and then it was impossible to miss.
It was 1–0 to Gais.
It was about to become 1-1 when Gefle converted with lightning speed. The kick-out was long from Robin Wallinder and the ball found its way to Ahmed Bonnah who was completely clean but managed to place the ball wide.
Then came the next blow for the home team.
Adrian Edqvist and Jonas Lindberg hooked into each other. Then an arm from Edqvist came up in Lindberg’s face and referee Enzo Vesprini pulled up the red card immediately.
That of course changed the conditions.
Gais took over more and more and 2-0 came after another fine attack. August Wängberg’s play was perfect and Mervan Celik headed the ball into the far corner and became a two-goal scorer.
– It is a fairly even first half, but we take our chances. We work hard and everyone runs for each other and we know what to do on the pitch, the goalscorer told Discovery.
Penalty for Gais and 3-0 already at the break
Just before half-time, Julius Lindberg ran through and was intercepted in the penalty area. The referee did not hesitate and awarded a penalty to the green and black.
Then Joackim Åberg stepped forward and placed ice-cold in 3-0.
A half that, of course, Fredrik Holmberg was satisfied with, as were the traveling fans.
“Gais is going up, Gais is going up”, echoed over Gavlevallen.
The match is in progress.
