Gailums is injured in the javelin competition of the Olympic Games

Gailums showed a result of 77.26 meters in his only attempt, which was the 11th best in the first group in the competition of 16 athletes.

To enter the main competition, it was necessary to throw the javelin at least 84 meters away or to be among the 12 best athletes from the 32 participants in both groups .

Gailam’s first attempt was not counted, 77.26 meters was reached in the second, and in the third attempt he threw the javelin within 82 meters, but it went slightly on the division line, so no the result was counted.

While performing the last attempt, Gailum also injured his leg.

Four javelin throwers qualified from the first group – German Julian Weber (87.76 meters), Julius Jego (85.97 meters) from Kenya, Czech Jakub Vadlejh (85.63 meters) and Toni Keranen (85.27 meters) from Finland.

Another representative from Latvia, Gatis Čakšs, will compete in the second qualifying group of javelin throwers.

Gailums is a rookie at the Olympic Games, but Čakš took 18th place three years ago in Tokyo.

This season, Gailuma had the 21st best result among 32 participants, and Čakš – the 23rd best result.

The main jaws competition for men takes place on Thursday.
