GAG Christmas Spectacle Raises 210 Euros for Star of Hope Children’s Home in Romania

The first “GAG Christmas spectacle” started in the late afternoon with another new accent – the sale of homemade waffles, Christmas cards of our own creation and cookies baked in the parents’ houses. This was for the good cause of collecting donations for the “Star of Hope” children’s home in Romania, a shelter for children that has been the focus of the GAG Christmas fundraising campaign for years. As a UNESCO school, the GAG acquires donations for this partner institution to support the work there. Thanks to the commitment of the project group, supervised by social studies teacher Jenny Miegel, 210 euros were raised that evening alone, which – supplemented by donations in kind – will make their way to Alba Iulia in Romania in the spring.

Impressive solo

Choir classes from grades five, six and seven and a vocal practical course from Q1 set the vocal accents, framing an impressive solo. The start was the atmospheric, rousing song “I count to three”. The brass classes in grades five and six, working together as a large ensemble for the first time, created enthusiasm with the Christmas title “Catch a Falling Star.” And since the brass format at the GAG is continued in grade seven, the ensemble shone with Elton John’s “Circle of Life”.

After a break for general pre-Christmas communication and fundraising, choir classes performed, among other things, the tender song “Traumflieger”, and the upper school vocal practical ensemble performed a jazzy, swinging interpretation of the classic “Jingle Bells”. The wind ensemble of the test level once again presented itself with a Christmas concert suite.

Big final

The finale of the choirs was the solemn musical blessing “A Blessing” and contemplatively introduced the final speech by school principal Evelyn Futterknecht. And as a goodnight encore, the 7th grade, together with the upper school vocal practical course, sang a little love song to the earth’s satellite, “The Moon,” which illuminates the winter time for us. The very nice atmosphere with a lot of cosiness, the smell of waffles and punch and a lot of communication was a wonderfully atmospheric pre-Christmas event.
