Gaduh Rizieq, JK Talks About Leadership Vacancies

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Vice President RI 10th and 12th Jusuf Kalla alludes to a “wide-ranging leadership vacuum” as the reason behind growing support for the Grand Imam of the Islamic Defenders Front (REIT), Rizieq Shihab, in recent times.

JK also highlighted the uproar that occurred after Rizieq’s return, involving the TNI-Polri, so that it seemed as if the country was in a “shaking” condition.

The community, according to JK, is currently looking for alternative leaders who are considered to represent their aspirations.

“There is a vacuum, once there is a charismatic leader, say so, or someone dares to provide alternatives, then people support it,” said JK on PKS TV’s YouTube account, Friday (20/11) night.

According to him, Rizieq’s popularity is an indication that Indonesia’s democratic system must be improved, one of which is due to public distrust of the legislature.

JK said the reason the community chose Rizieq as their channel of aspiration was a question that had to be evaluated and answered. JK also flicked on the role of PKS and a number of parties with other Islamic ideologies, which should have been able to fill the leader’s vacuum.

“Especially PKS and other Islamic parties, that there is a vacuum in our system or way of democracy, especially in the Islamic ideology which is then filled by Rizieq’s habib,” he said.

JK warned that this condition would not bring Indonesia back to the era of street democracy, when people no longer had confidence in the state, so they decided their own path by demonstrating.

According to him, this condition caused losses to the state, such as hindering economic development and development.

“So public participation does not support what they choose, but chooses its own path to become street democracy again,” said JK.

“Why is the Covid problem still going on? Why not be disciplined? There is a problem with our dignity to society that may not set a good example,” he added.

Rizieq’s return and a number of agendas have been in the spotlight in the last two weeks.

The Provincial Governments of DKI Jakarta and West Java were deemed to have failed in anticipating the crowd at Soekarno Hatta Airport and allowed the crowd to continue at the wedding of Rizieq Shihab’s daughter.

In the aftermath of this series of events, the Kapolda Metro Jaya and West Java were transferred. The TNI then sent a signal to Petamburan, the FPI headquarters, so that Rizieq and his followers would no longer divide the unity. Pangdam Jaya, Maj. Gen. Dudung Abdurachman, even threatened FPI if necessary.
