Once seen as his father’s successor, he is set to run in Libya’s presidential election on December 24.

Speaking to the Times newspaper by telephone, he said he was in good health, and confirmed his relationship with the advisory team acting on his behalf.

He is expected to publicly announce his political ambitions in the near future. However, it remains unclear whether he will be allowed to run, as a new election law currently being drafted could potentially exclude him from political participation.
The 48-year-old man was arrested and imprisoned by militants in 2011. He was released by his captors six years later under an amnesty agreement.
Since then, he has been in hiding. He is still facing an arrest warrant in Libya, and according to the Times, he is also wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Several of his siblings remain in prison, both in Libya and abroad.
Sources who spoke to the Times said the ICC warrant could be withdrawn, but Gaddafi is likely to remain in office even if there is no ICC withdrawal.
