Puerto Belgrano – This morning, in front of the dams, the ceremony was held for the 118th anniversary of the creation of the Puerto Belgrano Naval Arsenal, a complex designed and built to carry out the maintenance of the naval resources whose construction was started in 1898 by Engineer Luis Luiggi.
The act was chaired by the Chief of Maintenance and Arsenals of the Navy, Rear Admiral Néstor Darío Peretti; accompanied by the Chief of the Puerto Belgrano Naval Arsenal, Captain Rodrigo Fabián Ataún. Also attended by military and civilian personnel who reviewed at the destination and special guests.
To start the ceremony, the stanzas of the Argentine National Anthem were sung, giving way to the allusive words that were in charge of the Commander Martín Esteban Díaz Vélez.
“The construction works began on July 2, 1898 with the placement of the first pile of the dam No. 1. On March 8, 1902, after almost four years of work, the official inauguration of the dam took place. careening No. 1 with the entrance of the battleship ARA ‘Garibaldi’ and the presence of the President of the Nation”, he recounted.
Along the same lines, Commander Díaz Vélez continued evoking the milestones that marked the growth of buildings and the expansion of capacities of the military site up to the present.
“In this brief summary of Arsenal’s history, we cannot fail to mention the generations of men and women, civilians and soldiers, who worked here and knew how to face, adapt and overcome multiple challenges. Today we have to continue his legacy”, said Captain Díaz Vélez.
At the end of the ceremony, the Chief of Maintenance and Arsenals of the Navy greeted those present and thanked the daily, committed and professional work of each of the members of the destination.
