Actress Gabrielle Union faced some challenges while making her next film “The Inspection”.
Speaking about the film at People and Entertainment Weekly’s photo and video studio during the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, Union explained her difficult decision to play a character she didn’t identify with.
“As an actress, I normally look for characters who have a part of me in them. I haven’t seen it in Inez, ”; Gabrielle Union tells about her about her character, Inez French.
The character, a homophobic prison guard, doesn’t reckon with the fact that his son Ellis French (Jeremy Pope) is gay due to his strong religious background. He ends up disowning him, which prompts him to join the Marines.
When asked if it was difficult for her to participate in “The Inspection” as the parent of a transgender daughter (Zaya, 15), Gabrielle Union replied that she was initially drawn to the “good story”;
Eventually, Gabrielle Union discovered that “my darkness has defined the common space with Inez, which is a very vulnerable place, to know that I am capable too.”
“It won’t manifest the same way, but when you focus on the idea of an oppressor of who you need to be to be considered worthy of all things, everyone is in the hot spot”;
So what do you think of the challenges Gabrielle Union had to overcome to make her next film, “The Inspection”?
