BRATISLAVA – Slovak athlete Gabriela Gajanová has once again proven her dominance on the track, securing a thrilling victory at the World Athletics Indoor Tour 2025 in Ostrava.The European Champion from Rome 2024 showcased her tactical brilliance in the 800-meter race,finishing with a time of 2:02.16, just 46 hundredths shy of her indoor record.
Gajanová’s performance was a masterclass in strategy.she maintained a steady pace, running in second position until the final lap, where she surged ahead, leaving her competitors in the dust.Finnish runner Evelina Määttänen trailed by a mere 24 hundredths of a second, unable to match Gajanová’s explosive finish.
The victory came just hours after Gajanová attended the Galavečer polls athlete of the year 2024 in Bratislava, where she secured second place behind Matej Beňuš. Despite the late-night travel and limited sleep, Gajanová remained focused.“I’m totally excited about how I ran today,” she told TVR. “I had respect before the race, but I believed that if I set up well for these two minutes, it could turn out well. I am pleased that I won.”
The event also saw extraordinary performances from other Slovak athletes. Sprinter Ján Volko set a new Slovak record in the 50-meter dash with a time of 5.79 seconds, despite finishing eighth in the 60-meter final. His coach, naďa Bendová, praised his achievement, stating, “It is an engaging fact and is quite correlated with Janko’s training sections.”
However, volko’s race was not without challenges. “I felt problems with the foot before the two hundred,” he revealed. “The pain escalated in the bend. It wasn’t ideal, but I believe it will be nothing serious that would endanger the sequel to the season.”
Meanwhile, Victoria Forster made history by breaking the Slovak record in the 50-meter dash with a time of 6.28 seconds, surpassing Eva Murková’s 1985 record of 6.31 seconds. Forster, who finished sixth in the 60-meter final, expressed her excitement: “I proved it to be in me. The time 7.28 after the disease is excellent. I fell a big stone from my heart.”
In the 400-meter run, Emma Zapletalová came close to breaking her own Slovak indoor record, finishing fifth with a time of 52.68 seconds, just seven hundredths off her career maximum.Daniela Ledecká also impressed, improving her personal record to 52.95 seconds and securing the ninth-best time among the starters.
