Gabriel Strefezza played for Corinthians as a right-back and was part of the same generation as Maycon, Malcom and Guilherme Arana. Currently, the athlete plays as an attacking midfielder at Lecce and is one of the highlights of the Italian Championship. Gabriel recalled the time he was released from Timão and dreams of wearing the white mantle again.
In an interview with journalist Rafael Reis, from UOL, the player treated the non-renewal of the contract with Corinthians, in 2015, as “a shock”. Gabriel played for Timão’s futsal club and in 2011, he started playing on the field, where he remained until the end of his contract.
Businessman Nilson Moura, at the time of the athlete’s dismissal, assured that Gabriel, with Italian citizenship, would try his luck in the country. The player recalled how he made the decision to look for a club in Italy.
“It was an attempt, something very difficult. I didn’t have a contract or the right club to play here. I traveled to do tests and try to find something. I didn’t think much about the situation because if I thought about it, I wouldn’t even come. , my mother gave ok and I traveled”, said the player.
After a few years playing for smaller clubs in Italy, Gabriel arrived at Lecce in the 2021/22 season and began to stand out on the national scene. He was an important part of the club’s accession campaign to the Italian elite.
In the current season, the player scored eight goals, seven for the Italian Championship and one in the Coppa Italia. With the highlight, Gabriel appears as a possible name to defend the Italian national team.
However, already thinking about the future, the player dreams of playing for the Brasileirão and prefers Corinthians, the club where he took his first steps in his career.
“At the end of my career, I want to play in the Brazilian Championship, and preferably for Corinthians. This is a dream that I still intend to fulfill”, said the athlete.
At the time he wore the alvinegro mantle, the player was known as Gabriel Espeto. He even trained with the professional squad, but ended up not having chances in the club’s main squad.
