Gabriel Medina is eliminated from the Mexico stage of the World Surfing. The Brazilian two-time world champion was defeated by compatriot Deivid Silva in the quarter-final heat played today (12), at Barra de la Cruz beach.
Location of Guarujá, coast of São Paulo, Deivid Silva scored 15.34 (8.67 and 6.67) points, against 13.14 for Medina, who, despite the result, has the first place in the ranking assured for the World Cup finals, which take place in September, in Trestles, California.
By going to the semifinals, Deivid Silva gets his best result on the world circuit. He is even guaranteed to be in the elite of world surfing for next season.
A Mexico stage will be the last of the Worlds before the finals, as the Tahiti event was canceled by the WSL after French Polynesia announced a state of emergency due to the covid-19 pandemic.
Next, the other three heats of the quarter finals will be played: Leonardo Fioravanti (ITA) vs. Conner Coffin (USA), Jack Robinson (AUS) vs. Frederico Morais (POR) and the second 100% Brazilian duel, Italo Ferreira (BRA) vs. Jadson André (BRA).
