Gabriel Diallo deserves the main draw in New York

Gabriel Diallo won his third qualifying match at the US Open in New York on Thursday.

The Quebecer, 148th in the ATP ranking, defeated Frenchman Valentin Royer (199th) in two sets of 7-6 (7/3) and 6-4 in 1 hour and 48 minutes.

Diallo won 76% of the rallies on his first serve, but struggled to capitalize on his opportunities, being limited to two breaks (in 11 chances) while trailing 3-4 per set. second set.

Royer converted his only break point to take the lead in the second set, but was unable to continue his momentum.

Diallo had won his first two matches with more difficulty in three sets, in over 2 hours and 30 minutes, against Japan’s Sho Shimabukuro and France’s Titouan Droguet.
