Gabriel Corrado remembered when he did his military service with Diego Maradona (Video: El Trece/La Noche Perfecta)
From the beginning of his career, Gabriel Corrado has managed to thrill audiences with his performances, interpretations and productions. Invited to La Noche Perfecta (El Trece), hosted by Sebastián Wainraich, he reviewed his career and spoke about a little-known anecdote with Diego Maradona during his youth.
It is worth remembering that there was a time in the country when military service was mandatory, men between 18 and 20 years old could be chosen by lot to join the ranks of the Army, Navy or Air Force. “Did you do the military service?” was Sebastian’s question, which brought with it a whole explanation for people who did not live through this period in the country. “There was mandatory military service, you were chosen by lot with your ID number,” explained the host, giving Corrado the opportunity to tell his story.
“I was in the fifth year of high school, at the Nuestra Señora de Luján school, a school run by Italian priests, at that time all boys, now it is mixed,” began the actor from Perla Negra. “I got number 700,” he recalled, which caused both Wainraich and Bebe Sanzo, who went through the same process, to be surprised.
“The last three numbers of the ID corresponded to three numbers in the lottery, every morning on National Radio. We listened to it at school, we were all glued to it,” he said about how he found out he had been selected. “It was really hard, really hard, really hard, I had already entered the Faculty of Medicine, I had to take a hit,” he added, giving details of how he got through that moment.
Intending to add a bit of humor to the situation, the host claimed to have a very important piece of information and asked an unexpected question to everyone present: “Is it true that you did your military service with Diego Armando Maradona?” This question generated a cry of surprise from Leticia Siciliani and applause from Sanzo. “Of course, Diego was from October 60, but he was playing in the youth championship and it was just once,” he quickly clarified, confessing that the footballer only made an appearance at La Tablada on the first day.
“We did our training there, then those of us who left there went to the Army Chiefs Command, and Diego went for just one day with a black Taunus and took photos with everyone,” he detailed about Maradona’s attitude, who at that time was playing in the youth championship in which he was crowned winner, in 1979. This was not the only time they saw each other, since, with the passage of time, his career as an actor gradually brought him closer to Maradona and they shared several moments together. “Very nice memories,” he said when remembering when he was part of La Noche del 10 (El Trece) and when he crossed paths with him in the corridors of Telefe.

In this same program, the heartthrob shared another story from his youth. While on vacation in Punta del Este, Uruguay, at the age of 18, with a group of friends, he spent the night in jail for a crime he did not commit with journalist Luis Majul.
“We were at a birthday party and the police arrived. There were about 60 of us in that apartment,” he began his story and then gave the reasons behind the police intervention: “Some girls we had met a few days before had stolen some prescriptions and had given the address of where we were to buy pills that were prohibited at that time,” he said, making it clear that neither he nor his friends had anything to do with the crime.
“The girls were taken in a police van and the boys were taken on foot through Gorlero until they reached the police station at the port. They held those of us who lived in that apartment prisoner,” she concluded her story, which had a happy ending, since they were all released.
