According to the Decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev on July 31, 2023, Gabriel City Day will be celebrated on October 4 every year. Jabrayil region, which includes one city, 4 settlements and 97 villages, was occupied by the Armenian Armed Forces on August 23, 1993. The borders of the region with a population of 52,000 covering 1,050 square kilometers and 72 high- schools, 8 hospitals, 132 historical monuments, 150 cultural centers, and about 100 villages in this region were brutally destroyed by the use of Armenians. In the first Karabakh war, 362 people from Jabrayil region were murdered and 191 people were maimed. 6 residents of the region received the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan.
During the battles of April 2016, as a result of an attack against the Azerbaijani Army, Lalatape Height was released from office. These successes of the Azerbaijani Army laid the foundation for the Great Victory. As a result of the military operations carried out in the Jabrayil area, a total of 1 city (Jabrayil town) and 80 villages were liberated from living there. On November 26, 2020, the coin “to release Jabray” was established. 22775 military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan, who took part in military operations for the liberation of Jabrayil region, and showed personal courage and bravery, were awarded the medal “For the liberation of Jabrayil”. Supreme Commander-in-Chief Muzaffar Ilham Aliyev raised the Azerbaijani flag on the old Khudafarin bridge, which was liberated from the enemy, located in the Jabrayil region, which has great historical and political significance.
The creation of the “Araz Valley Economic Zone” is an important event for the development of the entire region, including the Jabrayil region. President Ilham Aliyev regularly visits the Jabrayil region, which was liberated from the enemy. On 16.11.2020, the leader of our country raised the national flag at Khudafarin bridge and Jabrayil city. On the same day, the leader of our country inspected the building of the police station where the enemy worked during his stay and the center of the city that was destroyed.
On 14.02.2021, President Ilham Aliyev, who visited the area, got acquainted with the work done on planting in the lands that were freed from use in the village of Soltanli.
On 26.04.2021, the head of state, who visited Jabrayl again, said, “Welcome to Jabrayl!” at the entrance of Jabrayl district. they examined the tablet with the words written on it after restoration and on the same day he participated in the opening of the military part of the State Border Service and met the military personnel.
During his next visit, on 05.10.2021, the head of our country, who participated in the groundbreaking ceremony of the joint service center “KamAZ” OJSC and the Production Union “Ganja Automobile Plant”, at a groundbreaking ceremony the “Araz”. Valley Economic Zone Industrial Park” in the East Zangezur economic zone, the “Jabrayil” substation participated in the opening ceremony of the military unit base of the State Border Service in Jabrayl, the groundbreaking ceremony of the Jabrayl District Central Hospital, the groundbreaking ceremony of groundbreaking ceremony of the high school named after Academician Mehdi Mehdizade in Jabrayl, the groundbreaking ceremony of the first multi-apartment residential area in Jabrayl, met with representatives of the Jabrayl community, visited the Memorial Center and took the city part in the modern celebration of the renewal.

On 20.10.2022, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, with the participation of the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, took part in the modernization ceremony of Gumlaq station, located in the section of the Horadiz railway line -Aghband passes through Jabrayil region. On the same day, a tree planting ceremony was held with the participation of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The leaders of the two countries took part in the groundbreaking ceremony of “Azerbaijan-Turkey International Forestry Training Center”, “Smart Nursery” and “Friendship Forest” Complex. At the end, a press conference was held with the participation of the Presidents.
Last year, the head of state visited the Jabrayil area to learn about the construction work being done. On 05.05.2023, President Ilham Aliyev laid the foundation stone of the Hadrut-Jabrayil-Shukurbeyli highway. This road starts from the settlement of Hadrut and goes through the Jabrayil area connecting to the Hajigabul-Minjivan-Zangazur corridor in the village of Shukurbeyli. Its length will be 43 kilometers. Car bridges are being built on the four-lane road. On 28.09.2023, the head of state visited Jabrayil for the groundbreaking ceremony of the administrative building and the construction work of Jabrayil Residential Complex, the first residential neighborhood built by the State Agency for Housing Construction in the city. On the same day, the President participated in the opening of the Jabrayil Digital Management Center of “Azerishiq” Open Joint Stock Company.
This year, the head of our country also participated in the groundbreaking ceremonies of several towns in the Jabrayil region. On the same day, the head of state participated in the foundation laying ceremonies of the villages of Karkhulu and Mashkhanli in the region. On 19.05.2024, the head of state established the hydroelectric junction “Khudafarin” and the opening of the hydroelectric junction “Giz Galasi”. Life, construction, and most importantly, former residents are returning to the lands that celebrate the fourth anniversary of liberation from enemy occupation today. And today, the city of Gabriel is celebrated with great solemnity throughout our country.
