Gabon:The Transition Charter will be revised Gabon:The Transition Charter will be revised

Libreville, Thursday February 8, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – The announcement was made yesterday by the President of the Republic, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, during the Council of Ministers.

Adopted on September 4, following the advent of the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI), the Transition Charter will soon see amendments. The announcement was made by the President of the Republic yesterday Wednesday to the government during the Council of Ministers. Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema informed the participants of this meeting of his desire to convene in the coming days the National Assembly and the Senate meeting in extraordinary session.

According to the Ministry of Institutional Reform, this revision will relate to article 35 of the Charter. This provides that: “The President of the Transition fulfills the functions of Head of State. He is the Minister of Defense and Security. He ensures compliance with the Constitution and the Transition Charter. He is chosen by a designation college set up by the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions.”

In accordance with Article 58 of the Charter, this initiative is the responsibility of the President of the Transition and 1/3 of the members of Parliament. “The draft or proposed revision is adopted by a 4/5 majoritye members of the Transitional Parliament. The President of the Transition proceeds to promulgate the act of revision “. But, the final communiqué of the Council of Ministers chaired yesterday by the President of the Republic, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema does not mention it so that we know what points the announced revision will focus on.
