Gabon’s debt: The task force reactivated to track down irregularities

Libreville, Thursday August 14, 2023 (Infos Gabon) – By reactivating this reflection committee, the president of the transition, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, says he is determined to wage a merciless war against the numerous frauds that have plagued public finances.

The fight against fictitious markets will have to intensify in Gabon. This is at least the quintessence of an announcement made yesterday by Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema. By reactivating the task force, the transitional president intends to see more clearly the country’s internal and external debt. “I took the decision today, September 13, 2023, to reactivate the Internal and External Debt Task Force. This measure is essential and requires a careful and rigorous evaluation of public procurement in order to detect any irregularity or potential fraud,” he stressed in a Tweet.

According to the spokesperson for the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI), “this task force will take up all the files left suspended by the previous one without obvious reasons”. For Lieutenant-Colonel Ulrich Manfoumbi Manfoumbi, this presidential measure primarily targets all actors involved in the public procurement chain. “The President of the Transition, Head of State, therefore invites the successful bidders of public contracts and all the administrative entities concerned to contact the commission upon receipt of their summons,” indicates the press release.
