Libreville, Thursday, September 7, 2023 (Infos Gabon) – The placement under house arrest which weighed against the former President of the Republic was lifted yesterday by the Committee for the Transition and the Restoration of Institutions which also authorizes the latter to leave the country.
In a surge of appeasement and a desire to ease political life in Gabon, the President of the Transition, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, yesterday authorized the release of the former President of the Republic, Ali Bongo Ondimba, to whom he also gives permission to leave the country for medical reasons. This is the content of a press release read yesterday evening on national television by Colonel Ulrich Manfoumbi Manfoumbi, spokesperson for the Committee for the Transition and the Restoration of Institutions (CTRI). “Given his state of health, the former President of the Republic Ali Bongo Ondimba is free to move around. He can, if he wishes, go abroad to carry out his medical checks, ”underlines the text.
Placed under house arrest in a place that had remained secret until then since the coup of August 30, Ali Bongo Ondimba was deprived of his freedom and had no news of his relatives. He was able to receive yesterday Wednesday the visit of Faustin Archange Touadera, President of the Central African Republic and facilitator of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), and Abdou Abarry, Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations in Africa central. Victim of a stroke on October 24, 2018 while he was in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia as part of an economic meeting, the former Gabonese head of state can now go abroad, s he wishes, for health care.
