Women demonstrated on Monday September 18 in Oyem, capital of the Woleu-Ntem province, to denounce the ” mismanagement “ funds allocated to economically weak Gabonese people under the Income-Generating Activities Assistance Program (AGR).
The demonstrators marched from the headquarters of the provincial delegation of the National Health Insurance and Social Guarantee Fund (Cnamgs) to the governor’s services in order to make their voices heard. They complain of not finding their names on the list of beneficiaries of the AGR program displayed at the Cnamgs, even though they have been identified. “We are all counted. Everyone has their file at the Cnamgs, as well as at Social Affairs. We did not come here to annoy, we came to demand our rights”, they say. Learn from the Le Nouveau Gabon website.
Created on June 8 by former President Ali Bongo, the income-generating activities assistance program (AGR) was set up to support economically weak Gabonese in the development of their income-generating activities. This is a social assistance system which aims to combat youth unemployment through private initiative.
According to the website Le Nouveau Gabon, these demonstrators were received by the governor of Woleu-Ntem, Jules Djiki, who took up the matter. This demonstration is not the first of its kind. Other women have already demonstrated in Makokou (Ogooué-Ivindo), in Koulamoutou (Ogooué-Lolo) or even in Mouila (Ngounié) due to the absence of their names on the list of beneficiaries or their difficulties in receiving their compensation.
