Libreville, Friday, September 1, 2023 (Infos Gabon) – The Central African President and current President of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa was entrusted by his peers with the Economic Community of Central African States at the Committee for the Transition and the Restoration of Institutions.
Convened on August 31, 2023 by videoconference at the initiative of the President of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, the extraordinary summit of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) ended with the appointment of Faustin Archange Touadéra as facilitator for Gabon. The Central African President and current President of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC) has been instructed by his peers in the sub-region to begin negotiations with the Transition and Institutional Restoration Committee (CTRI) which overthrew President Ali Bongo Ondimba on Wednesday morning.
The ECCAS facilitator, who will be assisted in this mission of good offices by his Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sylvie Baïpo-Temon, has been instructed to speak with General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema as well as the entire Gabonese political class in order to to examine the political and security situation in Gabon after Wednesday’s coup by the Army.
