Libreville, February 6, 2024 (AGP) – The President of the Transition, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, received this Tuesday, February 6 at the Palais du Bord de mer, the Administrator of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Facinet Sylla, which expressed its satisfaction and congratulated Gabon for the reforms undertaken by the Transitional Government in a few months, reports a press release from the presidency received by the AGP.
«After assessing the economic situation of our country, Mr. Facinet Sylla expressed his satisfaction to the Head of State and congratulated Gabon for the reforms undertaken by the Transitional government in a few months. These include, among other things, revenue mobilization, inflation control, data transparency and rigor in the expenditure chain.», Indicates the press release.
The state of relations between Gabon and the financial institution were at the center of the discussions. On this subject, Mr. Facinet Sylla “reiterated the IMF’s commitment to supporting Gabon in its financial objectives, as well as the relaunch of its projects in the face of the dynamics of the new authorities».
In response, the President of the Transition, whose ambition is to put the country back on the path to development, reaffirmed his “commitment to implementing ongoing reforms to ensure the sustainability of Gabon’s macroeconomic system ».
The IMF Administrator came to present to the Head of State the progress of the surveillance mission he carried out in Gabon from January 24 to February 6, 2024, as part of an African tour. This IMF mission to Gabon allowed the General Administrator to have a broad overview of all the actors who work for the proper functioning of the Gabonese economy.
Before the Head of State, he met several other authorities, including the Presidents of the two houses of Parliament, members of the government, bank officials, the Gabon Business Federation (FEG) and the Prime Minister of the Transition, Raymond Ndong Sima.
