Gabon: the contours of the Transition explained to a group of diplomats – AGP

Libreville, October 3, 2023 (AGP) – The President of the Transition, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma received, this Tuesday at the Palace of the Presidency of the Republic in Libreville, a group of diplomats accredited to Gabon, with whom he exchanged on the Transition, which began on August 30.

According to a press release sent to the AGP, it was a “diplomatic ballet whose objective was to explain the contours of the political Transition since the events of August 30”.

The first diplomat who spoke with the President of the Transition is the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Congo to the Gabonese Republic and also dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Gabon, François Luambo Siongo. The latter was thus made aware of the current political situation in Gabon.

The ambassadors of France, China and the DRC received by the President of the Transition.

The President of the Transition subsequently received, in turn, the ambassadors of the P5 countries. In other words, the 5 permanent members of the United Nations Security Council including the United States, China, France, Russia.

“They discussed in particular the evolution of the Transition, in other words the gradual establishment of institutions and the upcoming holding of the inclusive dialogue of the country’s active forces,” indicates the press release.

This meeting is part of the advocacy initiated by Gabon, following the sanctions imposed on it by international bodies, following the seizure of power by coup d’état by the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI). An act that the new authorities describe as a “Liberation Coup”.
