Gabonese Leader Holds Productive Talks with Senegalese President, Cementing Ties
Dakar, Senegal – In a move symbolizing strong regional ties, Gabonese Transitional President General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema met with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on Monday during a working visit to Senegal. The meeting highlighted growing collaboration between the two African nations.
The Senegalese President lauded the Gabonese leader for the “perfect” execution of the transitional process, emphasizing its inclusivity and peaceful approach. "’Congratulating his Gabonese colleague for the plebiscite of the new Constitution after the referendum on November 16, HE Bassirou Diomaye Faye praised the Gabonese leadership, and especially the perfect management of the Transition in an inclusive, peaceful and strictly compliant approach,” a statement from the Gabonese Presidency confirmed.
Genera Oligui Nguema reciprocated the warm reception, expressing his gratitude for Senegal’s hospitality and noting the honor of participating in the commemoration of the martyrs of Thiaroye. He also conveyed thanks for Senegal’s support in appointing a Gabonese citizen to head the Agency for Security and Air Navigation in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA), headquartered in Dakar.
The leaders went beyond warm greetings, using the opportunity to explore avenues for strengthening their partnership.
"The meeting between the two heads of state was also an opportunity for them to express their desire to work together to give new impetus to their cooperation and raise it to a higher level," said the Gabonese Presidency. Discussions touched on shared concerns like security threats, the impact of climate change, and the importance of regional integration. Both presidents welcomed the strong foundations already in place, citing several agreements that cover political, economic, cultural, commercial, sports, educational, youth, and professional training spheres.
