Gabon: Raymond Ndong Sima receives the normative document on artificial intelligence – AGP

Libreville, January 25, 2024 (AGP) The Prime Minister of the Transition, Raymond Ndong Sima, received this Thursday from the Minister of Communication and Media, Laurence Ndong, the normative document on artificial intelligence in Gabon, indicates the communication from the Prime Minister.

The head of the Transition government, Raymond Ndong Sima, the Minister of Communication, government spokesperson, Laurence Ndong and the local UNESCO representative, Eric Voli Bi, discussed assessing the state of artificial intelligence readiness in Gabon, during a working session this Thursday.

It was precisely about the development and responsible appropriation of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in Gabon, including the implementation of the digitalization of the country’s administration.

At the end of the discussions, the Minister of Communication and Media took this opportunity to submit to the Prime Minister the report on the assessment of the state of preparedness of artificial intelligence in Gabon. An important document in the culmination of the national strategy in terms of artificial intelligence, which constitutes one of the first tools towards the materialization of the ambition carried by the highest Gabonese authorities.

A vision in line with the aspirations of UNESCO, as part of the implementation of an inclusive strategy for the use of artificial intelligence for the benefit of the administration.

At the local level, the initiative should, for example, within a regulatory framework, guarantee better access to information and a multitude of knowledge, in order to derive the best benefits.

« A country like ours has an absolute interest in managing all the contributions and automatisms that would result from this. This will allow us to move faster and catch up.“, declared Raymond Ndong Sima.

UNESCO, through its representative, promises to do everything possible to enable nations to prepare for the use of artificial intelligence, while protecting the populations, state and private structures of their country.

« This method is a normative instrument which allows States to evaluate all their infrastructures and their legislation, in order to allow citizens and human capital to be at the center of the question.he confided.

Gabon intends to organize a forum on artificial intelligence in the coming months. While taking into account the challenges, opportunities and issues specific to the context.
