Gabon: Head of State decrees 3 days of national mourning

President Ali Bongo announced during his speech on Monday March 13, 2023, days of national mourning in memory of the victims of the sinking of the boat Esther Miracle, which took place on March 9.

The days of March 14, 15 and 16 are declared a day of national mourning in Gabon by the Head of State Ali Bongo Ondimba. In memory of all the deceased, all activities, namely festive and sporting events which generally take place in the country, are suspended.

During these days, it will be a question of accompanying in thought and in prayers all these families affected by the disappearance of a loved one. It should be noted that masses will be said in the parishes as announced by Monsignor Jean Vincent Ondo Eyene in memory of all these missing from Wednesday March 15, 2023 in the parishes.

As a reminder, it was on March 9, 2023, around the early hours of the morning, that the ship Esther Miracle sank with on board more than a hundred passengers, including 6 deaths, 31 people who are still searched for in the waters and 124 people who were rescued.
