Libreville, Thursday August 15, 2024 (Gabon News) – The Gabonese head of state was present this Thursday morning, August 15 in Toulon, the ceremony celebrating the 80th anniversary of the landing of Provence.

Several African heads of state attended a ceremony dedicated to the landing on Provence, a military campaign carried out during the Second World War from 15 August 1944 by allied troops in the South East of France (between Toulon and Cannes ) until the Nazis.

Among these distinguished guests of the French President Emmanuel Macron, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, the president of the Gabonese movement that has made the duty of memory a hobby horse. Gabon, which he has led since August 30, 2023, maintains close ties with France in terms of cooperation that has recently developed taking into account the values ​​that the two States share including, mutual respect as well as world developments.

Present today in Provence with the French Head of State, they all paid tribute to the 350,000 soldiers who landed in this city, including several African heroes who fought for France there risk their lives. “They were not of the same generation. They were not of the same faith. They were not of the same condition. But they were the country’s army,” said Emmanuel Macron in a message carried by French media.

Speaking in turn on behalf of African heads of state, Cameroonian President Paul Biya recalled how the facts marked the history of these brave fighters as well as the context of the two world wars that shook the planet to before he scared him. present and future of our world. This painful period, which saw Africans fighting alongside France, must be a lesson and avoid too much that he was careful to list.
