Gabon/All Saints’ Day 2023: time for weeding of graves in Libreville – AGP

Libreville, November 1, 2023 (AGP) – The people of Libreville went massively, this Wednesday, to the cemeteries where they cleaned these burial sites, on the occasion of the celebration of All Saints’ Day, like every 1st of the month of November, noted the AGP.

In the morning, the weather which was favorable during this rainy period allowed these inhabitants to comply quietly with respect for this tradition.

Some consider this act to be a true source of blessing. This is why they do not hesitate to storm these burial places the same day, in order to prove to missing beings the feelings they still feel towards them, although now in the afterlife.

Addressing them after cleaning the graves, they formulate wishes through a prayer of faith to trigger the blessings coming from their ancestors.

“We tried to make an effort with other available young people by forming small groups and everything went well. We were able to clean up and then we were able to say a prayer for our late parents,” Guy Bissielou explained.

He said he hoped that “times to come would be better for him”, after his visit to the Nkoltang family cemetery, in the 2nd district of the commune of Ntoum, in the Estuaire province.

The same enthusiasm was also perceptible in the municipal cemeteries of the capital. Armed with weeding tools, namely machetes, these residents also had bags and bags containing alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks, food and candles.
