On August 12, the American couple was stopped by police at Arches National Park in Moab, Utah.
In connection with Petito being found dead in September, the police released videos from the police’s body cameras.
Now they have released another video, where Petito tells the police that Laundrie exposed her to violence.
In the video, Petito says that Laundrie attacked her shortly before the police stopped them, after a person called the emergency number and said that he had seen a man expose a woman to violence.
When the police have stopped the white habit Petito and Laundrie were to cross the United States across, the former makes a hand gesture which is now speculated to be a cry for help.
In April 2020, the women’s rights group Canadian Women’s Foundation launched a helping hand for women who are exposed to domestic violence.
First you have to take four fingers up while you put your thumb in the palm of your hand, and then tie your fingers together.
The help sign was taken further by the American Women’s Funding Network (WFN), and went viral.
It has now become an international sign to ask for help in secret.
In the video, Petito takes her hand up over her cheek before tying it.
On Twitter, many ask how the police could ignore what they believe was Gabby Petito’s cry for help.
Many wonder how the police did nothing to remove Petito from Laundrie.
The failure of the police to protect women when called to the scene of domestic violence cases is an EPIDEMIC
Few in power want to discuss or get to the core of what this police failure is nationwide – the tacit support of ABUSE to women by MEN IN POWER.https://t.co/CEfdULWrIc
Tonie Ann Toran heads Penelope House, which helps American women who are victims of violence.
She says to the local channel Fox 10 that it is difficult to decipher what Petito does in the video.
– What happens in this video, which is quite frenetic, you can interpret it the way you want, and interpret what she does or does not do, she says.
She says that no matter what happens in the video, the most important thing is to focus on domestic violence.
– I think that people must begin to understand that there is a lot of violence in the home, and that violence in the home can escalate to a murder, she says.

– I have a cut here
In the video that has just been released, Petito is pulled aside by the police officer.
– He hit you, the police officer asks in the video.
– I believe it, I believe it, yes, but I beat him first, Petito answers.
– Where did he hit you, the police officer asks, and says that Petito must not worry.
– He kind of did not hit me in the face. He kind of did not hit me in the face or anything, Petito replies.
The 22-year-old is asked if Laundrie slapped her in the face.
– He pulled at me with his nail, and that may be why it looks like … I have a cut here. I feel it when I touch it. It’s burning, she says.
oh and, his parents need to be charged too. they know where brian laundrie is and they know he killed gabby petito. she also showed the SA hand signal for help when they got pulled over and the police ignored it. sickening
Petito further explains that Laundrie was frustrated and that he locked her out of the habit and asked her to take a breather.
– I did not want to take a breather. I wanted to move on. We are empty of water, she says.
The new video also shows that the person who called the emergency number emphasizes that he did not see a man beat a woman.
– I think I saw maybe a push or a thump, but not a slap in the face or something, he says.
When asked if the eyewitness saw a woman slap a man, the witness answers this:
– Yes.

Internal investigation
Chief of Police Bred Edge of the Moab Police Department in Utah has taken leave while an internal investigation is underway to find out if the police officers made a mistake when they let Petito and Laundrie continue their car vacation.
The couple began their vacation in July, with plans to cross the United States across.
Originally, the couple was to return in October, but in early September Laundrie returned home alone to Florida.
Gabby Petito was reported missing by the family on September 11, and eight days later she was found dead. The FBI believes she was killed.
Laundrie, who has gone underground, is referred to as “a person of interest” in the case, and is wanted for illegal use of a bank card.
