British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he would gather G7 leaders for urgent talks on the situation in Afghanistan on Tuesday.
“It is vital that the international community works together to ensure safe evacuation, prevent a humanitarian crisis and support the Afghan people to build on the gains of the past 20 years,” Johnson wrote on Twitter.

This year, the UK is chairing the G7, which also includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States.
The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, previously said that the commission is ready to provide funding to EU countries that are helping to resettle refugees from Afghanistan, and that she plans to raise the issue of resettlement at a G7 meeting next week.
Western governments are trying to evacuate their citizens and individual Afghans who are in danger after the Taliban seize power in Afghanistan.
