Hiroshima ∙ Firm support of G7 heads of state for Ukraine resisting Russian invasion. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, who sought support at the G7 summit in Hiroshima, got the assurance. The support also came in response to Russia’s claim that it had captured the city of Bahmut in Ukraine.
Zelensky accused Russia of turning the city of Bahmut into a graveyard. He said that Bahmut had a similar destruction to what happened in Hiroshima during the Second World War.
US President Joe Biden announced $3.75 billion in military aid to Ukraine. Biden assured Zelensky that he would do all the help he could in the fight against Russia and that there would be no backing down. Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has stated that he will support Ukraine’s defense. French President Emmanuel Macron urged Zelenskiy not to compromise on a deal that would leave the possibility of war in the future.
