The G7 countries may agree to impose sanctions on 1-carat diamonds from the Russian diamond mining company Alrosa during the summit, which will be held May 19-21 in Hiroshima. This was reported by The Economic Times on Wednesday, April 12, citing the leaders of the jewelry industry.
“We have heard from various sources that there will be new sanctions that will start with measures on large diamonds,” said Vipul Shah, chairman of the Indian Gem and Jewelery Export Promotion Council.
About 90% of the world’s diamonds are currently cut and polished in India, the newspaper writes.
