(Agence France-Presse, Hiroshima, 19th) Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) agreed today to impose new sanctions on Russia. They said the sanctions would “deprive Russia of G7 technology, industrial equipment and services to support its war machine”.
Agence France-Presse reported that G7 leaders held a summit in Hiroshima, Japan, and announced new sanctions against Russia, including restricting the export of items “vital to Russia on the battlefield” and targeting entities accused of sending supplies to the front line for Russia.
According to people familiar with the matter, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will go to Hiroshima to attend the G7 leaders summit. In addition to highlighting the threat of Russian President Vladimir Putin using nuclear weapons, he will also discuss with G7 leaders to further hit the Russian economy.
Zelenskiy’s visit to Hiroshima, which was bombed by the atomic bomb, is said to be especially symbolic because of Putin’s occasional threats to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
