“Justice, once again, is faced with its very nature and its mission” said in a statement George Papandreou regarding the decision of the Supreme Court on the wiretapping scandal.
“Her decisions in the wiretapping case do not simply concern the monitoring of political opponents, members of the leadership of the Armed Forces, journalists, and even ministers of the government itself, but are directly related to the democratic functioning of the institutions, not excluding her own Justice.
Greek citizens, in the fifty years that have passed since the Post-colonization, surrounded Justice with respect,” he stressed.
“Despite any problems, the majority of Greeks believed that, “there are judges in Athens.” However, over the years, citizens were faced with decisions on important cases of public interest, which severely affected the prestige and credibility of the judiciary. Consequently, they revealed the relevance of judges to the clientelistic political-economic system that holds the country and the Greek citizens hostage.
It is obvious that, in order to be respected, the decisions of justice must also be judged.
It is now time, as in all institutions as well as in the Judiciary, for the public officials themselves to be at the head of the nationally necessary initiative to defend their democratic function, but also their personal dignity.
No more wasted time.
There is an urgent need to put a barrier to the clientelistic system that produces continuous crises, injustice and inequality, which the Greeks and the country pay dearly and in various ways” stressed Giorgos Papandreou.
