Tonight a traffic accident occurred on the federal highway 52 in the direction of Roermond at the Neuwerk junction. Two cars ran into each other and hit the concrete guardrail. One of the cars was so badly damaged that all the airbags in the vehicle opened and the automatic emergency call system was triggered. The total of three vehicle occupants had to be brought to Mönchengladbach hospitals for further examination after they were first treated by the emergency doctor on the motorway. The Neuwerk junction and the right-hand lane had to be closed during the rescue measures.
The fire and rescue train from Fire and Rescue Station I (Neuwerk), the rescue vehicle from the Technology and Logistics Center (Holt), three ambulances and an emergency doctor, the Neuwerk unit of the volunteer fire brigade and the command service of the professional fire brigade were in action.
