There was great relief when the 500kg WWII bomb was defused in the late afternoon. All residents affected by the extensive evacuation were able to resume their journey home at 4:10 pm. The emergency services are still a few hours busy organizing and carrying out the dismantling work.

About 20,000 residents had to leave a danger zone defined by the Hessian Explosive Ordnance Clearance Service (Darmstadt Regional Council). Again, most of the affected Frankfurt residents did so very responsibly. Some people with reduced mobility registered late for transport assistance and some people had to be asked by the police to leave the area. Due to the condition of the bomb, it was not clear until the end how the bomb could be defused. Final preparatory work on the disaster at noon showed that one of the two detonators could be safely removed. Both detonators were blown up on the spot. About half an hour after the defuse, the police released the roadblocks and bank transactions again. The transfer of residents of two retirement and nursing homes has begun. A treatment center in the ball sports hall in Unterliederbach was visited during the day by a total of around 300 people, who were also fed there. There was a special area for people infected with the coronavirus. The city telephone, which has been active since Tuesday, has received over 900 calls. Humanitarian organizations and firefighters took more than 280 people who were unable to leave the evacuation area on their own to accommodation and brought them back after the evacuation was over. The explosive ordnance clearing service of the Darmstadt regional council, the Frankfurt regulatory office with the city police, the Frankfurt fire brigade with full-time workers and volunteers, the humanitarian organizations Technisches Hilfswerk, German Red Cross, Arbeiter -Samariter-Bund, Johanniter Unfallhilfe and the Malteser Hilfsdienst, as well as the police involved. More than 600 emergency services of the police, fire brigade and humanitarian organizations in Frankfurt, the district of Hochtaunus and the district of Main-Taunus were involved.
