FvDers go to court for referendum, European group leaves party

With 76 percent of the votes, Baudet won the referendum by a large majority. But Roos does not see that as an obstacle to declaring the European group independent. “The members are different from the voters. Those million voters voted for the program that we are running. We will continue to fight.”

Jan-Cees Vogelaar, intended to be number 9 on the FvD candidate list for the House of Representatives, is not surprised by the result. “But if Baudet returns as party leader or party leader then I will be gone,” he said in an initial reaction to the news.

Lawsuit

Vogelaar, together with Johan Almekinders (party chairman of the Provincial Council of Overijssel) and Wouter Weijers (party chairman of Utrecht), intends to initiate the lawsuit. According to them, the referendum was not fair for several reasons.

Preparations fell short, members could not choose other candidates, some members did not receive an email with a call to participate and the membership administration is a mess, the trio write.

The group has engaged a lawyer to investigate the points where a complaint can be submitted. They want the result to be declared invalid and for a new referendum with multiple names on the drop-down list.

Member of Parliament resigned

After the referendum result, a third member of parliament, Bart Smeets, has resigned from the Limburg parliamentary party of FvD. Earlier this week, two of the seven States members of the faction in this province had already left.

The FvD faction in Noord-Brabant wants to “determine in good consultation to what extent we see the consequences of the results”. The members of parliament want to continue their work, but under which flag it remains unclear. The group promises to provide more clarity on this by the end of next week at the latest.
