Future works are planned around the Duchy of Uzès

At the meeting a few weeks ago to present the works in the Place du Duché d’Uzès there were many local residents. Mayor Jean-Luc Chapon, accompanied by the commissioner responsible for the works, Gérard Bonneau, and the director of services Hubert Lupérini, detailed the project.

An inventory of the place du Duché and the streets of Admiral-de-Brueys and Sénéchal first highlighted the traffic difficulties, the anarchic parking, the devaluation of the whole, the discontinuity of the heart of the city and the little obvious exits on the boulevard.

It has also been highlighted that the paved roads of the protected sector ensure the aesthetic aspect but imply a waterproofing of the alleys, “creating considerable risks of runoff and flooding”. The presentation instead noted the presence of green spaces on the Marronniers side and on the park of the Duchy, as well as in the private gardens. Archival photos have made it possible to recall that the plantations already surrounded the duchy in the past.

Vegetation and removal of parking lots

Once these results were presented, the redevelopment project of the square and the adjacent streets was concretely explained. It will be provided by the Amphoux agency, landscaper; Carole Viot, landscape engineer; Scala 1, heritage architect; Inéco, technical design office and Sylvie Sieg, lighting designer. It should also be noted that the Duke of Uzès will participate financially in the works.

“Trees will be planted, rather varieties that don’t grow too high, such as hackberries and shrubs,” announced Mayor Jean-Luc Chapon.

Several interventions are foreseen with the excavating of the networks and the covering of the attics; the blacksmith’s part of the furniture; plantations and finally the installation of automatic toilets.

“Trees will be planted, rather varieties that don’t grow too tall, such as hackberries and shrubs, the mayor announces. Part of the land will be paved. The containers will be moved and framed by greenery. Finally, another important novelty, the square will become pedestrian. Parking spaces will be removed. The terminals will be installed so that only local residents can access the area.

Phase 2 of the works in 2024

Work preparation begins this month. Paving should be done between March and May 2023 and between December and February 2024 for phase 2.

The district will therefore soon have a new face, which will also be marked by the relocation of the Sainte-Anne school, to the land adjacent to the avenue Pompidou, where the inter-communal swimming pool of the Pays d’Uzès is located and a car park. Lots of 236 spaces are also planned .
