On May 1, 2023, a meeting took place between representatives of the board of directors and management of the Insel Group and representatives of Spital Münsingen Betriebs AG and the mayor of the municipality of Münsingen. The positions and intentions regarding the future of the Münsingen hospital were expressed.
The following points on the future of the Münsingen hospital site were recorded:
• Insel Gruppe is sticking to its decision to close the hospital in Münsingen on June 30, 2023.
• The options for further use of the property will be examined by Insel Gruppe over the next twelve months.
• The municipality of Münsingen has announced its intention to purchase the hospital’s land. She has also stated that she wants to strengthen the region’s basic services.
• The newly founded Spital Münsingen Betriebs AG has announced its intention to acquire the hospital property in Münsingen.
• Insel Gruppe is available for talks regarding the continued use of the property after the closure. Corresponding offers will be checked by the Insel Gruppe.
closure necessary
The Münsingen hospital location has been structurally in deficit for years. It has not been possible to profile the location in recent years. Offers had to be discontinued (maternity department) because there were not enough staff. Even emergencies are regularly precariously staffed.
In addition, the tariffs for inpatient and outpatient services are too low. As a result, hospitals have to take drastic measures in order to be financially stable in the medium term and to be able to ensure healthcare in the regions. The Insel Group must also take measures to ensure financial stability. It consolidates offers and locations in order to relieve the staff on the one hand and to provide the population with efficient medical care on the other.
It was and is essential for the board of directors and management that the affected employees quickly get clarity about the future of the Münsingen hospital site. This is the only way they can make the best decision for themselves with regard to their further employment. A purchase by external investors would be impossible in the short term and would cause great uncertainty.
Prof. Dr. Bernhard Pulver, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Insel Group, emphasizes: “We would like to keep as many employees as possible within the Insel Group. For this reason, the decision to close was definitely made and communicated at the end of June 2023″. How the property can be used in the best possible way in the future is the subject of a careful examination.
